Dark Circles Under the Eyes

You have not had a decent amount of sleep for a few days now. You are on the final stretch of your exams. You may also be on the verge of missing your deadlines at work. You are maybe adjusting to a new circumstance in your life.

Dark circles under the eyes are common in people lacking sleep. This is due to the fact that sleeping relaxes the blood vessels around your eyes. Not sleeping properly and inadequately means that these vessels are not relaxed- hence, inflamed. The "bulging" or inflammation of the blood vessels cause the dark circles under your eyes.

In addition, heredity is also a factor of having circles around your eyes. Look at your parents or other family members. If they have prominent dark areas around their eyes, chances are you will have or already have too.

Trauma on the eyes which causes bruising is a factor too. Actual bruising may take a few weeks to heal but usually, the dark circles caused by bruising will last even longer. Some even stay forever.
