Say Good Bye to Under Eye Circles and Wrinkles

There is no doubt that skin around the eye area is thinner and more delicate than anywhere else on the body. As a result, it is often the first place to show signs of aging! The most common concerns are wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles

Fine lines and wrinkles around the eye are mostly caused by the sun (in particular, UVA exposure breaks down collagen and elastin). Consider the fact that we have less oil glands around the eye, and it is no wonder that this area tends to be dry with more wrinkles! Look for an happinesslifetime.com eye cream that contains Hyaluronic Acid, which is super-moisturizing and helps fill in fine lines. Lactic Acid can help smooth the tissue and retexturize dry, flakey skin. Also look for a product that contains at least an SPF 15...this won't cure current damage, but definitely helps prevent problems from getting worse!

Puffiness can be caused by a variety of factors, including water retention, heredity, allergies, smoke, leaving make-up on overnight, etc. We can't control all of these issues, but we can take action with the right ingredients! Look for Hydrocotyl Extract, an anti-inflammatory that calms skin and helps eliminate puffiness. Vitamin E, Spiraea, Allantoin and Bisabolol are great for smoothing, calming and conditioning. Severe fat pads around the eye can only be removed through cosmetic surgery.

Dark circles and sun spots can be the result of sun damage, veins/capillaries that are showing through the skin, lack of sleep, etc. Often times, dark circles are hereditary- some people are more prone to the natural dark pigment that can show up in this area. Dry, dull skin can make darkness more apparent. Look for an happinesslifetime.com eye cream with a red tint...red helps cancel out dark colors! Some products contain "optical light diffusers", which help minimize circles by reflecting light off of the area. Again, an SPF 15 can help prevent future damage.

Aside from using the correct ingredients, try making a few slight changes in your daily routine. You may be surprised with the result! For starters, sleep is critical in decreasing puffiness around the eyes. Smoking is also a major culprit in regards to wrinkles and dark spots. Keep an eye mask in your fridge, and wear it for a few minutes in the morning before applying make-up. If you are prone to allergies, it shows in your eyes. Take an antihistamine to help decrease puffiness associated with allergies. If you wear contact lenses, ensure that you are using the brand that is most gentle on your eyes. And wear those sunglasses...they help prevent sun damage (and hide anything you don't want to show)!

Most importantly, remember that confidence is more beautiful than even the most perfect skin. Keep your expectations realistic...there is no wonder product that can cure everything overnight. Find a reputable product line, stick to it, and your skin will thank you. If you need an instant fix, speak to a dermatologist about laser or surgical options.

In my experience, I have found Dermalogica's www.skincarelogic.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=52&idproduct=60 Total Eye Care SPF 15 to be a great product for concealing, treating, and preventing future damage.
